This summer I am furthering my knowledge on playing to learn by reading the book Free To Learn by Peter Gray. I will be posting comments and findings from the book right here on my blog and I'd like to invite you to join. Read the book at your own pace and leave your own comments and findings. I love to collaborate and celebrate life long leaning. The book can be found at some libraries and is available on Amazon.
As many of you know, I am publishing a children's book in 2014! The book has a working title of Brainy Babies and it highlights the power of a young child's imagination and natural curiosity. What an exciting week it has been! Today, the third graders presented their Fanciful Tale reports and I was just beaming as I realized just how much they have grown since August. I saw paragraphs of writing, true knowledge of difficult text, and even sculptures or art work to go along with the reports. We are moving into non-fiction as we march on through March. I have also posted the new word study or spelling choice menu on my blog. Jansen, Madison, and I were also invited to go to Richland Newhope for a lunch and to meet Miss. Ohio and Miss. Wheelchair Ohio. What an amazing memory for students to have. If you don't know a lot of Richland Newhope you can learn more by clicking here: http://www.rnewhope.org/. Do you know a person who has made a difference in the life of a person with a developmental disability? If so click here to nominate them: http://www.rnewhope.org/HeroesWithHeart/ This weekend I will be traveling with other staff members to Cleveland for a two day conference! I am excited about this opportunity and will come back filled with great ideas. I am truly so lucky to have a job that is fun, challenging, and rewarding! Hello everyone, I wanted to tell you about a great opportunity for your children to read free books on their electronic devices! It is called The Ohio ebook Project. All you have to do is sign in with your library card number. Easy, simple, and free. I am so excited about the quality of literature your children are interested in reading. We really are a community of readers! I have used the eBook Project myself for books. If you want something new you can get on a waiting list. You can use this for your Kindle, computer, PDF, and Overdrive Readers. If you would like help setting this up feel free to contact me or drop in! Happy Reading :) click here We spent time in the Tinker Lab this week experimenting with solids, liquids, and gases. Check out the bulletin board in front of the Spanish room, it shows how molecules are tightly packed for solids, spread out for liquids, and way far apart for gases. We did a movement activity in the classroom during movement time so the children could move their bodies become the molecules! Sid the Science Kid showed us how food turns from a solid to a liquid in our stomach and then we compared and contrasted non-fiction text to support our findings. Whew, it was a busy and exciting full week in third grade!
I read Encyclopedia The Case Of The Civil War Sword by Donald J. First At the begining of the story a kid with red hair walked in the Detective Agency. Then the kid asked do you know any thing about swords. Next the kids went to Thomas’s house. At the end of the book Encyclopedia said don’t trade your bike the sword is not real! 1. Why you should read this book. You should read this book section if you like swords. 2. Should read this book if you like mystery books. 3. Rating of book 3. and a halve stars. Why you should not read this-Because it uses the same thing basically. By Jonathan Get your pens, pencils, and keyboards ready for these writing contests! Hello Third Graders, My name is Mrs. Fennell and I will be your third grade teacher this year. I hope that you had a relaxing, fun-filled summer and are ready for a new and wonderful year. I’m very happy to be teaching third grade at Discovery School and to have you in my class. This year will be very busy and filled with new learning experiences and exciting activities. I cannot wait to begin reading some of my favorite books with you. My Side of the Mountain by Jean Craighead George will be our first chapter book of the year! On the second day of school, I would like you to bring in 5 items which represent something you did this summer or something that you love. Put them in a small, unlabeled, brown paper bag. Do not tell anyone what is in your bag! We will be doing a fun activity with them during the first couple of days of school. In order to begin the school year successfully and to help us keep organized, I hope that you will bring all of the supplies on your list. These supplies do not have to be new. Recycle where you can. I always loved packing my bag for the first day of school, even when I was in college! I would also like to invite you to visit my website frequently throughout the year! The address is http://fennellsfantasticclass.weebly.com . Warmly, Mrs. Fennell |
